‪#‎sochiproblems‬, your problems are irrelevant tbh. Given the general state of Russia outside of Moscow/St Petersburg, you’re lucky your hotels have roofs.

I say this as a Russian who is bemused at the shock and horror you’re expressing at the state of the hotels; welcome to Russia, I guess. That’s what it’s like. That’s what the majority of this country lives like.

The amount of joy that Western media has found in taking the piss out of Russia is terrifying. It’s not a fucking joke. This is real. Laughing about it is just immature. What you’re seeing is merely a reflection of Russia as a whole (i.e. a shithole if you aren’t filthy rich). It’s a reflection of a massive problem.

I’m angry and I can’t put my finger on why. Garry Kasparov sums it up pretty well, though.

Dmitry Kozak, the deputy prime minister responsible for the Olympic preparations, reflected the view held among many Russian officials that some Western visitors are deliberately trying to sabotage Sochi’s big debut out of bias against Russia. “We have surveillance video from the hotels that…

I’M SORRY BUT CAN WE PLEASE STOP THIS POST FROM SPREADING FURTHER?
THIS IDEA IS SO SO SO BAD YOU HAVE NO IDEA
Basically, they’re meaning to send 10,000 pro-gay coloring books to Russian children if their post gets 100,000 notes.
First of all, those books might not make it in at all. Despite saying that they packages will be disguised, if they send 10,000 books, some of them are bound to be discovered by authorities, and THAT WILL MEAN TROUBLE. If nothing more, they will at least be a reason for the government to tighten mailing laws or take further action against pro-gay activists.
Secondly, even if the books DO get through to families, if they are discovered in children’s or their parents’ hands, those people will definitely be in a lot of trouble. Being pro-gay and pro-trans is illegal in Russia, and owning this book would be pretty solid proof of being that. Not good.
THIS IS A METHOD FOR SPREADING AWARENESS IN THE WEST. THIS WILL JUST GET PEOPLE IN TROUBLE.

in trouble is a nice way of putting it, families that receive these books could be fined up to 5000 rubles if these books make it to their homes!

Russian art student Peter Pavlesnkiy wrapped himself in barbed wire. The confused policemen attempted to untangle and remove him from the public square — first by putting a blanket to hide the horror, then with wire cutters. The protestor was gashed and cut by the self-imposed net. ‘The action symbolises man’s existence in a repressive legal system, where any movement causes severe reaction by the Law as it bites into the body of the individual’
